Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren are two designers that don’t much of an introduction. They are the duo behind the magic that is Viktor&Rolf, the Dutch fashion label. They met while studying fashion together and in 1992 won a talent contest. Forging a brand that is today the haute couture label that still wow’s the industry.
In 1999, Viktor&Rolf were put on the list for a show at Paris Fashion Week. Being the new kids on the block, with a relatively short life, they opted for just one model, Maggie Rizer. They had her stand on a rotating platform, from here she would remove a layer at a time, showing off the entire collection. The show was called Russian Doll and is still talked about as the most important fashion show of the ‘90s.

Why all this in-depth research? Good question.
It’s because the fashion loving team at the National Gallery of Victoria are currently showing off some of the best pieces from the last 20+ years of Viktor & Rolf. From runway pieces, to commissioned works of art, to items that have been loaned from museum collections from around the world.
Viktor & Rolf Fashion Artists is showcasing over 40 signature pieces from haute couture to ready-to-wear collections. With photo galleries to runway footage, you’ll be immersed in everything Viktor&Rolf.
For those of us that have children, bring them along and watch their creative minds expand with Atelier: Viktor&Rolf for Kids. This exhibition gives the young minds a chance to create an accessory and then present the piece, aiming for a better understanding of the creative process.
