Soirées, Simplified: Event Tips from our In-House Expert

Feb 28, 2023  ·  3 min read

Melbourne’s social scene is in full swing. From exclusive parties to private dining that dazzles, we sat down with our very own Conference and Events Sales Manager, Amy Keeshan, to hear her expert tips and tricks on taking the pressure out of party planning, and trends to look out for in 2023…

So Amy, you’ve been in the events world for a while. How did you get started?

My career in events started back in high school. Whilst my friends were studying to be teachers or nurses, I was busy planning our 18th birthday parties and end-of-year formal. After studying events and hospitality, and gaining as much work experience as I could, I kicked off coordinating large-scale weddings before moving into the hotel scene.

What are your favourite events to plan, and do you have any advice on how to create an unforgettable party?

There’s nothing I love more than creating events and experiences that are left-of-field, unique, and where I need to think outside of the box. In a nutshell, turning the boring into the extraordinary. That’s something that QT Melbourne does so well – if you can dream it, more often than not, we can deliver it.

My number one tip would be to focus less on the small details, and instead, putting energy into the food, beverage and music. No one is going to remember the colour of your napkins, but they will walk away with memories of a first-class menu and dancefloor anthems.

What emerging trends do you see coming up in the event industry?

2023 is all about doing things differently! We’ve seen a shift away from canapés and the rise of pop-up activations such as oyster stations, caviar bumps and ice cream carts. One of my favourite trends at the moment is a showstopper – our ‘Ring For Champagne’ wall. As guests arrive, they approach a large hedge wall and ring a bell which prompts a gloved hand to reach through the wall and hand them a glass of Champagne. Memorable, no?

Sounds like a party for the ages! Speaking of out-of-the-ordinary experiences, what is your favourite event space at QT Melbourne?

Out-of-the-ordinary is what we do best! My favourite events to plan are those in Secret Garden or Hot Sauce Laneway. Both are hidden away, and with an air of exclusivity, these venues are oh-so Melbourne and unique in their own right.

Last question… can you share a secret with us for the year to come?

Let’s just say we have a few exciting projects in the works for 2023. If not already, this year will be the year that QT Melbourne really cements itself as THE places for event with lasting impact. Watch this space QTies.
