Piknic Electronik Sunday Sessions

Jan 23, 2017  ·  2 min read

words by niall roeder

The Sunday session is a great thing. It’s wicked in the true sense of the word – a naughty pre-Monday bash that leads you astray with a cunning glint in its eye. It’s also wicked in the Ali G of the word – as in, “that’s well wicked init, bruv”. This summer, Piknic Electronik is bringing banging outdoor Sunday sessions to Melbourne.

Piknic Électronik was started by four electronic music enthusiasts in Montreal in 2003. The team noted that a Sunday sesh has a totally different vibe to that of the TGIF night and the every-man-and-his-dog crowded Saturday night and set out to tailor an event that makes quality electronic music accessible. And what’s the easiest and most effective way to do so? You throw kick-ass outdoor parties with specialised programming in a friendly and unpretentious environment. And since their humble beginnings, Piknic originals have done just that – electronic music rendezvous’ have been set up in Melbourne, Dubai and Santiago.

In 2017, Piknic Électronik Melbourne has found a picturesque perch in the green surrounds of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Besides the beats and room to wiggle, the Piknic has a purpose built bar; stocked with quality beers, fresh juices and exotic cocktails, a variety of food trucks, shady spots to relax and activities for little ones.

This year’s line-up is littered with local and international DJs, like Deetron, Michael Mayer, Session Victim, John Jammin’ Collins and Tornado Wallace.

The Sunday reveller is a fun-loving risk-taker, characterised by a willingness to play hang over roulette. If you enjoy a Sunday session, you won’t need much convincing to come along to this. If you’re questioning it, chances are you’re scared and you’ve probably never really squeezed the weekend for all its worth. Live a little – dance in the arvo sun knowing the start of the week is just around the corner.

Monday can beat it.

Piknic Electronik runs 2pm-9pm each Sunday from January 1 – March 19.

Served fresh every Sunday ? ☀️
