The NGV’s Triennial

Jun 7, 2017  ·  2 min read

As far as galleries that we like to spend the afternoons of chilly weekends wandering around in go, the National Gallery of Victoria is a frontrunner, for sure.

The current Van Gogh exhibition is fantastic. As is the William Eggleston festival of photography, those pieces are something that stays with you. Mix all this in with Friday Nights at the NGV and you have yourself a venue that offers some of the finest showings in the art world, right here in Melbourne.

So it comes with a level of excitement that only a press release from the NGV can muster, to let you in on the summer plans for the gallery.

So what’s the good news?

The National Gallery of Victoria and their partners are stoked to announce the inaugural NGV Triennial kicking off this coming summer!

The exhibition will set out to explore five global themes that result in deeper thinking of ideas and conversation that will make you a better person, or at least feel that way. Art’s funny like that.
The themes of Body, ChangeMovement, Time and Virtual will be broken into with a showcase of 78 incredible artists from 32 different countries.

The network of ideas will be brought to life by artists such as local boy Ben Quilty, the Argentinian Alexandra Kehayoglou and the much loved Yayoi Kusama from Japan, in a bid to bind these themes into past, present and future perspectives.

Visitors to the Triennial will be treated to a whole host of art from tech, animation, performance, film, design, painting, drawing, tapestry and sculpture, with it kicking off on December 13 and wrapping up in mid-April 2018. For more deets, check out the full release HERE.

You’ll hear more about what’s on show closer to the opening and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date with not to miss pieces and all that good stuff that comes from the NGV.
