Melbourne – the river, the city, the artwork, the markets, the food, the booze… When laying claim as to why Melbourne is one of the best cities in the entire world, the reasons are endless. Though above all there is one reason that makes the city stand apart – the music scene. According to a study in 2013, Melbourne hosted whopping 62,000 live music events each year. That equates to 169 gigs every day of the year, that was 3 years ago. Since then, Sydney has shut down its music scene and Melbourne has seen a healthy number of new stages open across the state. The scene has only grown since ’13 and as with every November, Melbourne Music Week is here for nine days to remind us why this city is the home music.
From November 11 – 19, there will be over 110 events, 240 artists spread over 40 locations across the city. With so much going on, here is a guide on what not to miss out on during the celebration.

Love Live Music at the ‘G.
The team at the MCG are opening the gates at the prestigious venue and welcoming some of the best Aussie artists to take over normally off-limit areas. Gigs in the change rooms to the turf, you’ll find the likes of The Delta Riggs, Coby Grant and The Pretty Littles enjoying a day at the ‘G. This event is ticketed and due to the awesome line-up and venue, will most likely sell out – grab your tickets early!Face The Music
Running over two days, the FTM industry summit is always a good way to understand the industry; where it is right now and where it’s going. With live music from crowd favourites to acts that you are yet to fall in love with. The summit also includes panels from movers and shakers in the industry, talking all things music, from culture to tech. You can grab a two-day pass for $120, an amount that is totally worth it to hear from some of the best in the business. Snatch those tickets! The Drones feat. The Grand Organ at Town Hall
A Sunday night gig, with the support of locals, My Disco, heavily highlighted as a do not miss. The Drones, known for their passion-filled live shows, will take over Town Hall and incorporate the Grand Organ into the set, playing all their career highs as well as their kick-arse new album. Again, tickets, they’re a necessity and can be purchased for monies. The Hub
Because this list has to be finite, I want to end with The Hub. This year the State Library of Victoria will play host for the MMW Hub. What comes with such a responsibility is the capability to throw some awesome gigs. From morning and lunchtime concerts to late night screenings, this will be the place you want to be. Check out the full program, there is so much going on!If you need any more direction, information or tickets, check out the official Melbourne Music Week HERE.
