We love being inspired and what delivers the most inspiration is hearing stories of exciting people trying to make their mark on the salty shores of the Goldy. Today we shine a spotlight on local entrepreneur, Lachlan Leckie, from The Salty Merchants. He’s the man best known for his bold and quirky surfboard fin designs and the highly sought after retro beach umbrellas.

Leckie describes his fins as cosmic blades that are wild and reckless and respond to your innermost desires. Sounds sexy and adventurous doesn’t it? His designs range from mandala psychedelia to lava lamp blends, and his beach brollies are sun bleached and retro, complete with floral prints and tassels. He’s found his niche and he’s nailing it. Well played Leckie old boy, well played.
Here is what he has to say.

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Lachlan Leckie, I am an artist, surfer and business owner. I run a small company called The Salty Merchants where I design a select range of lifestyle products. Our main focus – and what is keeping us busy this summer, is our handmade, vintage inspired beach umbrellas called “Boutique Brollies”.
Current city?
Southern Gold Coast. Born and raised.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?
Whatever else it is that I want to do… Not exactly sure what that is but it would involve a lot more surfing.

Describe yourself in 3 words
Salty. Hairy. Happy.
Top 3 things you love to do on the Goldy?
There’s no place better to do my favourite things. Coffee, Surf, hang with my girls on the beach. We have amazing coffee shops, world class surf and insane beaches.
Your idea of a perfect day?
That involves waking up to my smiling 6 month old, getting coffee with her and her beautiful mum, the point breaks are pumping and the crowds haven’t noticed (now that’s a dream) surf the morning away, bbq on the deck in the arvo and jamming in the lounge room at night.
