spaQOn the Gold Coast, creativity doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it hums quietly in the background. In stolen light, in slow afternoons, in the spaces between moments. Charlotte Rose Beers lives in that space. Where being a mum, a storyteller, and a magazine publisher aren’t roles, but rhythms. This month, we sat down with Charlotte over coffee to chat more about creative life on the Gold Coast.Â

Hi Charlotte, tell us about yourself. Who are you when the lens cap’s off?
I’m Charlotte Rose Beers. A mum first, always… and everything else kind of builds around that. When the lens cap’s off, I’m a lot slower these days. I notice more. I’m not thinking about content, what to do next or what I have to finish, just the feeling of where I am and who I’m with.ÂLately, life’s shifted a bit for me. I’ve stepped into working for myself, so my days feel a little more fluid. More creative, more intuitive. I’m building something that actually reflects how I see the world, not just how I market it. Most of the time, I’m just with my son, or talking to my mum, or sitting somewhere quietly thinking. The camera just fits into that rhythm when it needs to. I really don’t force it, I learnt that very early on.Â
‘Her Exposure’ isn’t your average glossy. What sparked it, and what keeps it evolving?
‘Her Exposure’ started because I was craving something more permanent.ÂEverything felt so fast. Post, scroll, gone. And I kept thinking about how different it feels to hold something in your hands. A magazine, a photograph, something that actually stays. I wanted to create a space where women’s work felt considered and kept, not just consumed. Now it evolves naturally. I don’t force it. The stories that come through shape it, and I’ve given myself the space to let it grow in its own way. Especially now that I’m leaning fully into creative work, it feels less like a project and more like something I’m building alongside my life. Â

Her Exposure Magazine, by Charlotte Rose BeerAs a GC local, what’s your go-to spot for the perfect shot?
For me, it’s more about timing than location. Light, stillness, people just existing. Although saying that, I had a little afternoon with my partner on Burleigh Hill a few days ago. We backed up the ute at the top, I took out my camera and just shot what was happening around me. People watching the sunset over Surfers Paradise, walking their dogs, just living. It felt really wholesome. The surf was working too, so that definitely added to the aesthetics haha.ÂYou checked into QT Gold Coast with your mum, which is a vibe in itself. What moments made you reach for the camera (or put it down completely)?
That stay felt really personal for me.ÂQT has so much character, so of course I was drawn to capturing the colours, the textures, the little details that make it feel different to the usual hotels on the Gold Coast. But the moments I didn’t shoot are the ones I keep thinking about. Sitting with my mum on the bed sharing a cheese board, talking about everything and nothing, not rushing anywhere. I think because I’m working more for myself now, I feel less pressure to capture everything. I’m more selective. I only pick up the camera when something actually moves me. And QT gave me both. The inspiration to create, and the space to just be there.Â
