When a mysterious young woman arrives at The Grand Hotel seeking shelter one dark night, she is taken in by proprietor Matilda and trained in the art of fine hotel service. But Eugenia soon learns that here, comfort means much more than welcome cocktails and clean sheets. At The Grand, not everything is as it seems.

In a world where sunshine can be blinding and nature encroaches indoors, these women draw increasingly on games and dreams and memory as they wait for their guests to arrive. And all the while ambition creeps quietly behind closed doors and neon signs…

Soon it will be high season and bathers will be bobbing in the ocean.
The boilers will be staked out on the sand like a mud crab buffet.
