Selfies: a very contentious, yet important issue in today’s society. When used correctly, they have the power to make any girl deceivingly beautiful and any guy utterly douchey. But have you seen the backwards selfie? Also known as the I’m-by-myself-and-at-peace shot or the #StagedNotStaged snap. For those uninformed, this is a photo taken with the subject’s matter’s back to the camera “unaware” that a photo is being taken. It’s the latest Instagram craze. They look awesome, but beg the question, who took the picture? Either the subject matter has asked for a impromptu-looking pic or has set up a camera with a timer. It’s staged… but we’re not hating, as mentioned earlier, they look awesome.
Considering this photo evolution, has the backward selfie overtaken the original selfie? Probably not, but it could be getting there. What you lose in the original selfie’s “hey look it’s me!” factor, you gain a “sorry, I didn’t see you there” element. Evolution, kids.
Combine a backward selfie and an epic view and you’ll no doubt have a winner on your hands and potentially your number one liked photo for the year. We may be jumping the gun here but trust us, this could be the combo your social media feed is screaming for. To help you on your way we have found the best locations on the Gold Coast to do just that (in reality, these locations are amazing and most definitely deserve a look in their own right). Ladies, gentlemen and Facebook frothers, we give you the backward selfie…
