She might look glitzy and golden but this ol’ girl is turning 80!
Surfers Paradise is set to celebrate its 80th birthday with a host of festivities on the Surfers Paradise Foreshore on Sunday 1st December.
Originally called Elston, Surfers Paradise was renamed by founder Jim Cavill to better reflect the suburbs amazing beach culture. The rest, as they say, is history!
Along with rides, attractions and entertainment, visitors can enjoy a time capsule ceremony, which will be filled with mementos that capture Surfers Paradise past and present, including photos old and new, editions of local papers and a variety of memorabilia. Watch history be made, as the capsule is officially interred by Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate. The capsule will be dug up in 20 years, on the 100th birthday of the famous holiday precinct.
