Sebastian Toast: Plush and Plastic at The Arts Centre Gold Coast

Feb 8, 2015  ·  1 min read

Posted by Sas Lyon

Gold Coast artist Seabastion Toast’s painting practice covers a wide range of subjects, underpinned by an interest in both cultural narratives and a life-long journey into light, form and colour. Her paintings often contain a darker subtext that runs parallel to the surface image as she investigates the grey areas between the black-and-white aspects of our society with all its totems, icons and metaphors.

Toast graduated from Southern Cross University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. The previous year she participated in a six-month university exchange at New York’s Pratt Institute, an experience that has been a lasting influence. She won the Gainsborough Greens Art Award (2011), Marymount Art Show Painting Prize (2012) and the prestigious D’Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize (2014).
