May 29 – June 1
By Benjamen Judd
It is literally just days until we begin a week of glitz, glamour, fashion and tonnes of sequins and we can barely hold our excitement in. Yes, the QT Fashion Week & Awards is about to return and we are literally dying (read in Rachel Zoe monotone).
Quickly becoming one of the most talked about events on the Gold Coast calendar, the QT Fashion Awards Week is a unique opportunity for fashionistas to get first glance at some of the freshest talent on the Australian fashion horizon. It’s also the chance for established designers to be showcased in the space of a vibrant and contemporary setting.
So as time draws closer, we thought that now would be the perfect opportunity to have a chat with one of the masterminds behind QTFWA, Event Coordinator Michaela Fitzgerald.
QT: Hi Michaela – thank you so much for taking the time to chat. Firstly, what exactly is the QT Fashion Week & Awards is about?
M: The QT Fashion Week & Awards operates as an Awards Festival that highlights and awards Established and Up and Coming Australian Designers all doing so during a scheduled week of cocktail parties, high teas and Gala Dinners. We bring some of the best Established and some of the most amazing emerging brands to the Gold Coast and give the general public the opportunity to witness first hand exactly what makes them so outstanding.
QT: What can designers do to get involved?
M: We are currently full for our shows this year, however we do still have a little space at our QT Fashion Day Out – this event gives designers the opportunity to sell directly to the public all while having their own stall set up around the runway in the QT Ballroom – this is one of the additions we have added to the schedule this year.
If anyone is interested in being part of next years event, simply keep an eye on our website here where we will be announcing that 2015 applications are being taken.
QT: When you’re selecting the designers to take part, what criteria do you look for?
M:Â In regards to up and coming designers I suppose my biggest thing is quality individuality plus also a brand that has been set up as a business, so they are able to grow and cope with supply and demand.
QT:Â Is there anything in particular you are looking forward to seeing this year?
M: It’s hard to pin point just one thing as each event this year has been made to be so different to the last. I’m very excited for the Gala Ball, mainly as this will be the first year we have done it and the designers that are showing are AMAZING!
On the other scale of that, I absolutely love the up and coming shows, it is seriously breathtaking seeing the collections and just knowing that even in a short year, they are going to be massive.
QT: Thanks again Michaela – can’t wait to see it all in action!
The QT Fashion Week & Awards begins May 29 and wraps up on June 1.
