By Thomas Souness…
Draw me like one of your French girls… If you’ve ever wanted to embrace your inner Jack Dawson (without the whole Titanic sinking and freezing to death thing while your new girlfriend hogs the improvised floatation device), consider signing up for a life drawing class at Dust Temple’s Hinge Gallery.
Running every first and third Thursday of the month between 6:30am and 9:00pm, artists (and wannabe artists) of the Gold Coast are invited to come along and sketch to their heart’s content.
No giggling allowed! People have been capturing the beauty of the human body since the birth of art itself, and whether abstract or anatomically accurate, it is no easy feat given the complexity of the human form.
“The representation of the nude in art is a victory of fiction over fact,” art historian Frances Borzello declares in the book The Naked Nude, “its great success has been to distance the unclothed body from any uncomfortably explicit taint of sexuality, eroticism or imperfection.” Get it? The naked body; we’ve all got one, they’re all different shapes and sizes… and they don’t have to be associated with blush-worthy thoughts of sex. Cast those puritan values aside and sketch!
If that still sounds like a mountain you’d like to climb, email Hinge Gallery for further details.
Dust Temple is located in Currumbin, approximately a 30 minute drive from QT Gold Coast, passing through some of the most stunningly scenic beach locations on the Gold Coast.
Life Drawing: $20.00, BYO materials
