KENJI URANISHI: SANCTUARY

Jul 1, 2013  ·  1 min read

In the Darkroom at The Arts Centre Gold Coast from June 22 – August 4, 2013

I am interested in and influenced by architecture and nature, and how people interact with both.

KENJI URANISHI

Japanese-born ceramic artist Kenji Uranishi relocated to Brisbane in 2004. From his tiny studio, porcelain structures reminiscent of the built environment are created using slip casting and slab techniques. His work fuses great craftsmanship and Japanese sensibility with a fascination for his surrounding environment. Gold Coast City Gallery acquired Unit from the 2006 Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award and with two architecturally inspired exhibitions on display, invited Kenji to create an installation for the intimate Dark Room space.

Learn more about Kenji in his article A Visit Down Under to Kenji Uranishi’s Pottery Studio for ceramic arts daily.
