Surface/Control explores the desire to control and master natural forces, in particular the potential of the wave as an energy source to be harnessed by the human body.
The wave is more than just water, it is a mythical zone of curling, tunnelling walls; an ephemeral space built of natural wonder, existing for a split second, only to dissipate.
Surface/Control simulates this space, repositioning and entangling the viewer inside a system that feeds on the body’s potential as a source of algorithmic energy. Employing real-time generative visuals and body tracking capabilities to create digital sculptures, the work questions attitudes towards what is considered natural phenomena and what is considered simulation.
