Four Top Surf Spots on the Gold Coast

When it comes to waxing your stick and heading out for a couple of waves, the Gold Coast is home to a number of brilliant surf spots. From world class breaks to little crumbling swells, there are 70 kilometres off surf perfect coastline right on our doorstep.

With that in mind here are a number of spots that you might want to check out the next time you feel the urge to surge.

Burleigh Heads
It’s mostly fast and hollow, so if you’re looking to get a little time behind the green screen, this might just be the place for you. With a sand break, you may think it’s forgiving, it ain’t. If you’re still learning, maybe book a couple of lessons elsewhere and work up to it.

Snapper Rocks
Once a year this place turns into the mecca of surfing as the World Surf League takes over the point and pits the world’s finest surfers against one another. The wave here starts behind the rock and those who are committed can ride this little tacker up the coast, for as long as the eye can see. If it’s firing, the crowds will be huge.

Currumbin
The spot to learn to surf on the coast, the outer break hosts a nice wave that gives way to some crumbling white wash on the inside. If you’re new to the sport, this is your jam. Book a lesson or two and you’ll be out the back in no time.

Rainbow Bay
With three breaks creating a long right-hander, Rainbow is another top spot for those beginners looking to work on their Steph Gilmore inspired cutbacks. If you’re wanting to practice on your longboard or single fin fun, Rainbow is a sweet little break to play around; make like Coco and Malia and get amongst it.
