For newlyweds Jacky and Derryn Ingram, the walk down the aisle wasn’t without a few bumps in the road. COVID-19 restrictions threw their plans for a big New Zealand wedding into a spin, but luckily we were able to help these love-struck best friends celebrate their wedding on the newly launched outdoor bar The Green. Now for the cute part, cue the love story!

How did you meet? 

It started as an online friendship and blossomed into something more. He was in South Australia and I was in Queensland. For almost a year we got to know each other through messaging and calls. We never missed a day. It was an instant connection. After six months I went to Adelaide for a long weekend to visit Derryn for the first time. Everything went great. The goodbye was hard but we got through it. We had planned for Derryn to visit end of year 2010. He made the trip up and we made our relationship official on New Year’s Day 2011. He was only meant to stay for a week or two but saying goodbye again was so much harder than we anticipated so Derryn made the move to QLD permanent and never went back to South Australia.

How did he pop the question?

It was simple and memorable, just like us. We were counting down New Year’s Eve 2017 and he got down on one knee in front of our kids and proposed. He already knew my answer; I said “hell yeah!”

What was your inspiration for your wedding? Why QT? 

We originally planned for a big New Zealand Wedding but COVID-19 travel restrictions ruined that plan. So we decided on a simple, yet elegant backyard wedding. Then COVID ruined the guest restrictions on that too so that’s I went on Google and stumbled upon The Green at QT Gold Coast. Derryn and I both fell in love straight away. I had already eaten at the QT for a Mother’s Day dinner and the food was next level amazing. The space had a relaxed, chilled vibe with the touch of class we were looking for. All the signs pointed to QT.

QT’s Event Manager Briony’s amazing customer service and open communication just drew us in more. She answered every email as promptly as she could and wasn’t forceful like other places. The whole experience had us sold.

Now, the cute bits!

Sometime it feels like we’re twins, we always finish each other’s sentences. We just get each other. He has the biggest heart, it makes me melt every time I look at him. We will be that couple who grow old together, who race in their mobile carts in the mall at 70 and still dance to our wedding song every weekend under the stars.
