Most of us know Dylan Moran as Bernard Black, the hilariously unpleasant bookstore owner in the award winning comedy Black Books. The Irish entertainer is a dab hand at writing, film making, acting and of course stand-up, and is a massive drawcard to the Melbourne, Montreal, Edinburgh and Kilkenny comedy festivals. From July Moran will be touring his Off the Hook show through Oz and is set to light up The Arts Centre Gold Coast for one night only on August 5.
As well Black Books, the scruffy comic has starred in Shaun of the Dead and Run, Fatboy, Run. He’s also appeared in numerous other films and series, released five stand-up DVDs and won multiple awards; including BAFTAs, an Edinburgh Festival Fringe award and the Perrier Award. In true Moran fashion, he dismissed the latter as “a load of media rubbish,” moaning Bill Bailey was more deserved!
Renowned for his uniquely deadpan humour, Moran’s style of comedy has to be seen to be understood. He is observational and cynical; his hysterically negative view on the world sends his audiences into stitches… and makes you wonder if part of his appeal is because we relate (albeit far-flung) to his eccentric jokes.
“Makes you laugh so hard you have to put your head between your knees and gasp for air” – The Observer (London)
“About as perfect an evening as I can recall” – The Times (London)
