ANZAC day is again fast approaching and there are record numbers anticipated at services across the Gold Coast, with seas of punters ready to show their support for the past and present service men and woman. Good form people.
With numbers expected to exceed 30,000 in several locations like Currumbin RSL, Surfers Paradise memorial (at our door step) is the place we’ll be heading to celebrate our great nation.
As an military child myself, it’s embedded into my blood that we wake up every ANZAC day to attend the dawn services closest to us, and on the Gold Coast we’re lucky to have numerous memorial services to chose from.
This year, we’ll meet from 5.15am at Surfers Paradise RSL on Beach Rd to march to the esplanade ANZAC memorial for a 5.30am start. Don’t worry, there are many a great coffee shops around to kick start your morning. If quality Z’s are more your style, Surfers Paradise RSL will hold another march at 11.30am from the RSL to the Cenotaph.
“Anzac Day gives everyone the opportunity to honour the tremendous efforts and sacrifices of those Australians who have participated in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world” – Mayor Tom Tate said.
Nothing is more Aussie than the AFL ANZAC day clash at the MCG in Melbourne. With kick off set to hit the big screens in RSL’s and lounge bars across the nation at 3.20pm, Collingwood and Essendon will go head to head in battle for the renowned Anzac Day medallist title.
With locations all over the gold coast from Coolangatta to Upper Coomera, keep up to date by heading to the Gold Coast website.
We’ll be showing the game at Stingray – pop in for a cold beer!
