How do you see yourself spending a sunny spring day? How does wandering amongst 50 stunning sculptures along Currumbin beach sound? The al fresco artworks are part of the Swell Sculpture Festival, which this year celebrates its 13th appearance.
All are invited to experience the sculptures, twilight walks, informative artist talks, Swell Smalls Gallery and artist master classes that are all part of this unique seaside gallery. The sculptures are the proud works of a handpicked bunch of local and international artists.
“This year’s final selection by the curatorial panel will showcase some of the best sculptural talent on offer in Queensland, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany and New Zealand” – SWELL founder and organiser Natasha Edwards
The works entered in this year’s festival deal with a wide range of subjects, from society’s commentary on fossil fuels and Aussie beach humour to relics of Atlantis. Last year’s display included koalas dressed as ANZACs keeping watch over the beach, metallic stallions frozen as they canter down the coastline and white clouds sitting stationary on the sand.
After taking cultured stroll through the free selection of sculptures, meander back to the luxurious QT Gold Coast for some elegant R&R. How very cultured indeed!
