19 Karen is the modern artscape on the Gold Coast.

When 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace first opened its’ doors (2008) it was to provide an innovative platform for contemporary art by largely unseen Australian & international artists whose work has been rarely or never exhibited. Many of these artists are now represented and exhibiting by commercial galleries interstate and overseas. It can be said that 19 Karen is a springboard for exceptionally talented emerging artists helping them to launch their careers into this tough and competitive market.

Toronto born painter, Brain Donnelly, is currently showing at the gallery. His work is primarily focused on figurative painting, and challenges the ideals of the figure within art as well as the boundaries of what is sacred within the painted plane.  Much of what Donnelly paints serves to examine the process of it’s own creation, and leave us with questions about the motives of the creator.
