19 Karen in March and April

What is 19 Karen, I hear you ask. And before your mind wanders, no, it isn’t one of those games where you pick the number house you first lived in and your Mum’s maiden name to apparently leave you with your pornstar name (if you haven’t heard of that one, please disregard and continue reading). 19 Karen is in fact an art gallery. It opened it’s doors in 2008 and set out to discover cutting-edge emerging artists with exceptional and diverse talent to shock and excite the people… and unlike the tacky pornstar game they got their name simply from the spot on which they sit, 19 Karen Avenue, Mermaid Beach.

Looking around the gallery walls it’s easy to get sucked into the art world. Intriguing pieces of bold artwork hang in a well thought out space, the styles are eclectic and the artists varying. We’re big fans of this place, so you can imagine it was news well received when we found out that 19 Karen has just organised their first show for 2016.

The opening night will be Saturday, March 19 and will be focussed around three solo exhibitions.

Janine Daddo

First up is Daddo with her first solo show in Queensland! Talk of Love is full of joy and colour – it will bring a smile to your face and a song to your heart.

Marina Gonzalez Eme

Gonzalez Eme (Spain) is making huge waves in Europe and we are sure it will not be long before the same happens here. Her surrealist work will blow your mind.

Roy Wilkins

And finally, Wilkins, with his exuberant works – emotional landscapes in a spontaneous abstract expressionist style.

So there you have it, it’s time to go out and get some art and culture into your life and what better way to take a step into the art scene then by checking out this funky art gallery and helping them start 2016 with a bang! And if you don’t like art, look at it this way, you may meet the love of your life in a couple of years’ time and they could be a long time art lover, and the fact that you would be able to hold a conversation with them about this art gallery you went to that one time, will impress them into thinking you could be a suitable partner.
