spaQBy Niall Roeder.
So after swiping right on just about everyone, you’ve connected with someone that has both quality banter and suits your tastes in the looks department. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a win, but don’t get ahead of yourself, most of these connections fizzle into obscurity before the initial spark can be fanned into a sexual flame. If you do make it through the messenger woods, into SMS country and they accept your dinner date offer, you’ve done well. Just make sure you equip yo’self. And what better arsenal to be equipped with than wine knowledge.
You know nothing about wine, so we’ve consulted the QT wine guru, Shun Eto, to help us navigate from awkward introduction right through to your-place-or-mine? The following is a lesson in vino intelligence, the perfect conversational dinner weapon that when used correctly, will impress the pants right off your date.
Early icebreaker: Obscure wine fact
Standard practice is to awkwardly peruse the wine menu and make the pondering face. You know the one; eyes at half-squint, potentially a chin stroke, accompanied by a “hmmmm, what do we have here?” Scrap that. Instead, confidently jump straight in. It’s time to metaphorically undo the top button on your knowledge shirt and give your date a peek of the swill intellect underneath. That means getting the ball rolling with an obscure wine fact. Shun says:
“Did you know there are spas in France and Japan that use red wine in their baths and treatments? Apparently there are health benefits…”
You have their curiosity… now you need their attention.
