Vivid Sydney 2016 Playlist

Apr 7, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

When it comes to a Spotify playlist I start with a title, like ‘South Coast Road Trip’, then proceed to fill it in no order with a mix of (to use technical terms) ‘classic hits’ and ‘recent bangers’. ‘South Coast Road Trip’ is now my go to for early You Am I sing-alongs, back catalogue Silverchair tunes, as well as whatever RÜFÜS and Kendrick are putting out, making it a concrete playlist but maybe not exactly what my co-drivers expect to hear in a highway mix. To give my compadres a break from my eclectic and weird choices as a tune selector, I recently started to delve into the curated world of pre-made Spotify playlists, and thanks to Vivd, I was quiet pleasantly surprised.

Now when it comes to curation, the creative team behind the Sydney Opera House have rightfully been dubbed by Spotify itself as a tastemaker, and they are bang on. With the recent announcement of the musical magic that will accompany Vivid Sydney 2016, the team have come up with a sweet playlist to get you pumped for the mid year festival.

The playlist is full of absolute winners, from Bon Iver, Bjork, New Order, Ta-Ku to Polica and Holly Throsby, all who will be taking the stage in late May and early June to celebrate the winter festival of lights, ideas and of course music.

So next time you are heading out for the morning run, long commute or that South Coast road trip, add the Sydney Opera House official Vivid Sydney playlist and get pumped for the upcoming shows. While you are there check out the Anohni playlist, also from the Opera House team.

Lastly, as we discuss all things Spotify, be sure to check out our all-purpose QT Playlist and beached as QT Bondi Playlist, curated by music guru Andrew Lewis. Catch the man himself spinning tunes at Gilt Lounge on a Friday and Saturday Night.
