The Return of the Dessert

Feb 25, 2016  ·  3 min read

By Niall Roeder.

Some of us enjoy a sweet course eaten at the end of a meal. We say yes to an indulgent and often unnecessary treat, a culinary coup de grâce, if you will. Then there are those who turn up their noses at the notion of more food after the main course. They are what is known as boring.

After witnessing how things like nutella-filled donut balls, Frankenstein-like monster shakes and croquembouche have ferociously taken the world by storm of late, it seems the majority are in favour of such delights. For every kale and chia seed warrior, there’s a sweet-toothed samurai ready to wage sugary war.

It’s great to be healthy, but it’s also great to live a little and once in a while pamper your pallet with naughty flavours. Health nuts may say we’re ill disciplined, but in our appreciation for life’s decadence there’s a certain sophistication, a refined quality… much like the sugar that makes up our favourite desserts.

The chefs at Gowings Bar & Grill are into the healthy side of life at times, but luckily are also keen on the dark, gooey and delicious side. They have a list of delectable sweet treats on the menu, like the Baked Chilled White Chocolate Pot, Hot Beignets and White Peach Carpaccio. However today we’re going to shine the spotlight on some others…

Gowings Classic Profiteroles

Would you take a look at that. If anyone tries to tell me that a celery, tumeric and organic gyspy tear smoothie tastes better than this, then they are dead set lying!

In the words of the great Stevie Wonder, “Isn’t she lovely, isn’t she wonderful”… enough said.

My Pavlova

This is another pretty little thing. It’s elegant, it’s fruity, it’s delicious and it’s Aussie.

Now this one really is sophisticated… and it has chia seeds! That makes it a super food dessert… doesn’t it?
