Have you ever looked at the walls of your house and thought “I need something here…” but you’ve slipped past the point of posters, you’d be shot if you took to redecorating with paint, and that piece of material draped so effortlessly in the corner is gathering dust like nobody’s business – you’re quite sure you’re going to develop asthma sometime soon because of it…you feel?
It’s a difficult little line to toe, but growing older brings with it an appreciation of money well spent… you pay peanuts, you get monkey’s – my father always said that and there is nothing truer to be said of art.
Laura Richardson and Ryan Stanier have put together a sensational little fair heading our way, coined as The Other Art Fair.
It revolves around bridging the disparity between eager art aficionados hungry for fresh talent, and that fresh young talent struggling to flesh out a life for themselves on the bones of their art.
A committee of respected judges filters through the applicants and pick out the burgeoning young stars and give them a space to sell their artwork under a spotlight.
Allowing the interested to come and discover what’s new and fresh, chat to and connect with the artist and purchase directly from the source.
The idea being that the purchaser will own an original piece from an artist tipped to flourish, and the artist, in turn, is given the chance at higher levels of exposure.
Starting October 27, make your way to Commune at 901 Bourke Street to check out the delights on display.
The Other Art Fair is an international platform with shows later in the year in London and Bristol, so give yourself the chance to own something great before it is recognised as being so – it’ll be like that time my friend and I discovered Ed Sheeran on YouTube singing in English pubs. I sadly didn’t track him down and marry him when he was a fledgeling performer, but you have the chance I didn’t!
Deck your walls with beautiful art and score yourself a piece of artistic history in the making
The Other Art Fair is on at the Commune from October 27 – 30.
