The Gilt Experience

Feb 18, 2016  ·  3 min read

By Niall Roeder.

There are certain things you should do in your life and certain skills you should acquire. Being able to make a decent pasta dish is one of them. It doesn’t matter which pasta dish, but if you can’t make an honest spag bol, carbonara or all’amatriciana, people will generalise and think you’re kitchen skills are rubbish. This is a harsh truth they don’t tell you growing up. There are heaps of these skills, many of which aren’t resume-worthy, but might one day impress someone enough to buy you a drink or help you move. Being able to tell a captivating story is great skill to have up the sleeve, as is changing a car tyre, opening a beer with a lighter, whistling really loud with your fingers and performing CPR. The list goes on.

One skill you should definitely learn is mastering the mix, muddle and shake, aka how to make cocktails. If you have friends and plan to entertain them at some stage, knocking together a few cocktails will turn you from some “mate” into everyone’s bestie in a few shakes of a lamb’s tail. Actually, even if you’re a complete loner and have no friends, the self-satisfaction and smug chuffed-ness one basks in from squeezing, shaking, crushing and pouring a few cocktails for themselves is next level.

Although, making cocktail isn’t just making a cocktail. You can definitely tell the difference between the mix produced by an experienced spirits slinger and that of a fresh-out-of-high school bar rookie. One needs to be taught the art. One needs to be advised of the trade tips, like stronger doesn’t mean better, don’t skimp on ice and use the correct glass.

To guide you through the liquor cabinet and impart some sweet, stiff wisdom, the expert bar tenders at Gilt Lounge are putting on master classes. They are cocktail professionals and they’re keen to take you on a journey through cocktail history from prohibition to today’s tipples.

Available for parties of up to 17, The Gilt Experience is a solid team building activity for your thirsty workmates or good ol’ fashioned fun for you and your drunkard mates.

Just think, you could be serving up drinks like Moscow Cool, Sangria Blanco, Popped Treacle and Marshmallow Yellow. How sexy. Cocktails in general, are sexy. That could be you. You could be sexy.
