TEDxSydney 2016

Apr 5, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

When it comes to gripping a quick understanding on a topic in a video format, it’s hard not to navigate towards a quality TED Talk video. As the acronymic name suggests, TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Talks can pretty much cover anything and everything. Scroll through their virtual library and you’ll discover debates tackling if school kills creativity, tales of how great leaders inspire action, moments where Jamie Oliver blows your mind with wheelbarrows of sugar and everything in between. TED Talks can change your perspective on something you’ve been certain on for years, solidify something you’ve just learnt and propose questions you’d never thought of asking. You should know that TEDxSydney is on the distant horizon, it’ll be here May 25, and you should consider going.

The speaker roster is sure to inspire some in-depth dialogue, with Dr Gill Hicks, a survivor of the 2005 London bombing taking to the stage to talk about how with optimism, courage and determination she was able to challenge the idea of how we could use the word “peace” as a verb.

Too strengthen out the speakers, Kelli Jean Drinkwater will be breaking down the walls that we as a society hold around the idea of perfection, while Sydney Morning Herald cartoonist Cathy Wilcox will be deliberating about the damn fine work that she has turned out almost every day since 1989. Then after all this, TedxYouth will be showcasing their line-up to help make the minds of 16-26 year olds of the Harbour City.

Now, the ticket ballot has closed, but I don’t want you to loose hope. As the day draws closer there will be a handful of tickets released and we’ll be sure to let you know when and where that happens.

To keep your TedX taste alive until show time, I binge watched a whole bunch of talks (literally hours of the stuff) and can tell you that Mark Ronson is officially the man. You should 100% check out the video below where he’ll convince you that he really is a musical magician… enjoy.

TEDxSydney will be held on May 25, 2016 at the Sydney Opera House.
