If you’re in the mood for an evening of hilarity, then booking yourself some tickets to see Jumpy, the latest production from the Sydney Theatre Company showing at The Sydney Opera House’s Drama Theatre, might the order of the day.
Starring Kath ‘n’ Kim’s June Turner, songstress extraordinaire Marina Prior, and television hit series Puberty Blues’ Brenna Harding, Jumpy tells the story of a family trying to grow up. Whether it be as a teenager (Harding), the prospect of turning 50 (Turner), or watching your closest friend fall peril to the youth culture by taking up burlesque (Prior).
While most of us are familiar with Turner’s absurdist comedy roles in Kath ‘n’ Kim and Big Girls Blouse, reviewers have already called this one of her greatest performances yet where her “comic genius is given full scope (The Age).
Directed by Pamela Rabe (Cosi, Sirens and more recently Wentworth), Jumpy has been dubbed “the funniest new play the West End has seen in ages” (Telegraph UK).
The Australian premiere season comes to the Sydney Opera House direct from a sold out Melbourne season. This heartfelt play has delighted Australian and UK critics and audiences alike.
Jumpy, brought to you by the Sydney Theatre Company, is now showing at the Drama Theatre until May 16.
