The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has begun and while it’s more famously known for its parties and the final parade, it also happens to provide a platform for one of the biggest LGBTQI film festivals in the world, kicking off on February 19 until March 5.
Now celebrating 22 years, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Film Festival is bigger and better than ever.
Presented by Queer Screen and hosted by Event Cinemas on George Street, lovers of the cinematic arts will be able see some of the best in contemporary queer film.
Highlights include opening night film, The Circle, an epic love story that spans the 1940’s until today, and All About E, a sexy Sydney-set thriller about a woman who hits the road in search of a new life and possibly a lost love. The 10 Year Plan is a hilarious comedy about Grindr, dead-end dates and the lack of a Mr. Right. Supernatural themed Lyle, starring Gaby Hoffmann (Girls, Transparent) has been called a lesbian Rosemary’s Baby, while Kumu Hina is an inspiring documentary in which a boy can transform into a woman.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Film Festival will launch on February 19 and will run until March 5. For more information on session times, head to Queer Screen’s official website.Â
