The Lunar New Year, better known as Chinese New Year, which for 2015 will begin the Year of the Sheep, is about to take over Sydney from February 13 until March 1 and it will be a festival of creativity, gentleness, compassion and a whole bunch of fun celebrations!
One of the biggest events on the Sydney Calendar, Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival celebrates the city’s rich Asian cultures. There will be more than 80 family-friendly events across Sydney’s Chinatown, Haymarket and CBD in what is the largest Lunar New Year celebration outside Asia.
During this year’s celebrations an exhibition of the Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors will make their mind-blowing Australian debut at Dawes Point. The Twilight Parade – a breathtaking spectacle of floats, lanterns, dancers and building projections – will wow locals and tourists in the heart of the city as it heads to Town Hall.
There will also be something for the food lovers – some of the best Sydney restaurants will be taking part in the Lunar Feasts, providing a specially catered menu for Chinese New Year celebrations. There is also Lunar Streets, an outdoor event taking place in Chinatown, Koreatown and Thaitown were lovers of flavour can taste some of the best in Asian street food.
Chinese New Year celebrates not only the new lunar year but also the rich history shared between Australia and Asia.
The Chinese New Year’s Year of the Sheep celebrations will take place across Sydney from February 13 until March 1.
Festival Launch will take place at Dawes Point on Friday, February 13 with festivities kicking off at 7.30pm.
