Who not to miss at Storyology 2017

Later this month, 28 – 31 of August, some of the finest story tellers of our time will converge on Sydney to talk at Storyology 2017. This is by far the strongest contingent in terms of a line up that The Walkley Foundation backed festival of stories have ever seen and is something that shouldn’t be missed.

The festival of stories, journalism and media relations will look at ideas surrounding trust, news rooms of the future and how to chase an investigation in the world today. With so much on over the three days, here is a little breakdown on what not to miss out and why.

Facebook x Journalism
As the keynote speaker for this years Storyology, Áine Kerr will be in conversation with Marc Fennell. Áine is at the forefront of how Facebook delivers journalism in a post alternative-fact world as the Manager of Global Journalism Partnership with Facebook. The ideas discussed will be around how Facebook can better deliver the news within the social realm and what tools they can offer to develop the technology in the changing platform.

Trusting Times
Two-time Walkley Award winning journalist Lenore Taylor, who now works with The Guardian Australia will be opening Storyology 2017 with a conversation on The Matter of Trust. An issue that runs throughout the two days, exploring where the public’s trust has gone and more importantly why.

Framing War
A highlight of the highlight list will be when renowned Australian political/social artist Ben Quilty alongside award winning war photographer Andrew Quilty (the two are cousins) in conversation with Jennifer Byrne in a talk titled Framing War. Talking about their time in war time Afghanistan and being surrounded by conflict, this will no doubt be a moving conversation. Investigations
Aaron Glantz, Kate McClymont, Gerard Ryle and Siddharth Varadarajan all have something in common. From ICAC to the Panama Papers, these journalists will be having a panel discussion with 2SER Exec Producer, Olivia Rosenman about chasing rabbits down the tight holes they seem to hide in. This panel signals the importance of investigative journalism and why we need it more than ever.
