Speed-The-Plow

Nov 11, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Josh Ives

Who doesn’t love Rose Byrne? Like a handful of our other Aussie actresses, she has been charging her way through the Hollywood A-list ranks over a decade. From her heartbreaking role as Briseis in the epic Troy, to her hilarious performances in Bridesmaids and Bad Neighbours’. Rose Byrne has proven beyond a doubt that she is among Australia’s finest exports.

So what’s Australia’s girl-next-door up to these days? Well, I’m glad you asked! For just six weeks, she’ll be returning to tread the boards in Sydney’s ‘Rosyln Packer Theatre  to star in an original satirical gem by playwright David Mamet called Speed-The-Plow.

Set around the wonderful, yet fickle allure of Hollywood, the play opens with two film producers: Bobby Gould (played by Damon Herriman) and Charlie Fox (Lachy Hulme), who are both hungry for success and just waiting to catch that elusive and life-changing big break. Well, as fate has it, that chance does present itself to the duo with Gould given the opportunity to green-light a project. It all seems too good to be true. Gould has the go ahead and funding for a movie, and Fox has hand-picked just the right star for the job. As far as expectations and predictions go, this is a winner.

Enter the vivacious and charming secretary, Karen (portrayed by Rose Byrne). She is assigned to be the right-hand to the operation and has some ideas of her own about the direction of the project. Will she be the wedge to drive the dynamic duo apart? Can she convince Bobby to ditch his dream and go her way? The results are sure to be hilarious and eye-opening – the trademarks of a good satire.

Shut up and take my money, grab tickets HERE.

Speed-The-Plow will run from 8 Nov – 17 Dec 2016.
