- spaQ
spaQLooking fresh-faced all winter long takes work. The spaQ crew and our maestro barbering team recently got together to talk men’s skin care tips and here are our top four!
- Hydration is essential
It is important to moisturise male skin all year round but even more so in the winter. The cold, dry air attacks our face causing the skin to dry up and sometimes even peel. Using the right moisturiser for your skin type helps to create a protective barrier against the elements. For best results we recommend applying moisturiser at least twice a day, in the morning and evening. Add more during the day if your skin starts to feel tight. For a great all-rounder suitable for most male skin types, we recommend Uspa’s Moroccan Argun Facial Moisturiser. Although, we recommend speaking to one of our skin care professionals to find the right one for you.
- The Eyes have it!
The delicate area around our eyes can dramatically impact our appearance – so how are yours looking? Refreshed, vital and healthy or tired, stressed and run down? Dark circles can become even more apparent in winter when that sun-kissed look fades, so it’s worth investing in a good eye cream. Remember to only use the smallest amount – less is more in the case of a good eye cream.
- A Smooth Shave
Preparation and post shave are the key ingredients in a smooth winter shave. The best time to shave is immediately following a hot shower when the pores are open and the hair is softer. A thick, creaming shaving foam is recommended to be massaged into the hair and make sure your razor is rinsed between every stroke. An aftershave balm to complete your shave is essential to reduce redness, sensitivity and ingrown hairs -a common problem with dry, skin in winter. And that brings us back to tip number 1… hydration is essential, so don’t forget to apply your moisturiser after your aftershave.
- Hydrate on the inside too
With the cooler weather it’s easy to skip a glass of water in place of a warm cup of coffee or tea. The water cooler is still the hip place to hang in winter to keep skin plump and youthful. A hydrated body shows on the outside and your skin will re-flect your water intake. Aim to drink 5-6 glasses of water per day as a minimum during the cold winter months.
