Red Bull Weekender 2016

Jul 6, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

When Red Bull throws a party, it’s fair to say that it’ll be something you don’t want to miss out on. Having said that, Red Bull only really turns up to other parties, like Laneway Festival and Splendour in the Grass with support stages and product tents. This coming September, the Bulls are throwing their own party, not just for the night, they have a full four days of music, art events and talks lined up in the Australian first, Red Bull Music Academy Weekender.

Joining the likes of Tokyo, Warsaw, Vienna and Stockholm, Sydney is the latest city to host a Red Bull Weekender. Acting as a cultural takeover of the host city, the weekender showcases the best in home grown talent across the creative spectrum. Expect club nights throughout the city, talks that will make you want to change the world you live in and exhibitions that will bend your mind.

Perth lad, Taku, will be dominating the weekend as he drops he much anticipated EP (M)edian, with three videos to accompany the release, co directed by the talented chap himself. Tennessee House DJ legend, Larry Heard, will be In Conversation discussing all things in his world, including his alias, Mr. Fingers and his latest release. Gigi Masin, Italian ambient music maker, will be playing with the sounds of the Harbour in a piece dubbed Talk to the sea. While over at the Marrickville Bowling Club, you’ll find 1800-Analog, a rave dedicated to old school techno, from the vinyl gods. I would urge you to check out the full event listing HERE, there is so much going on.

The clear darling for the Sydney Weekender comes to us from the Domain, with Flight Facilities taking to the stage with the backing of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Sadly, with a heavy heart I must tell you that this has sold out, if you were apart of the lucky ones that scored tickets, what a show you’re in for!

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sure to keep you up to date with what you can expect from the take over…
