Pop Up Providores

The Queen Victoria Building, with its Romanesque Revival architecture, used to quite the place to be in the late 1800’s. It was a thriving market place, where you could tie your steed up outside, read a newspaper to see what was happening back in the motherland and then grab your provisions for the week ahead. Skip forward 120 years and the QVB still holds itself as a place to shop and read the paper, however the market side of things has moved with the times along with the spot to tie up a horse.

For five days in August though, the Queen Vic team are recreating the market vibe with QVB Marketplace, basically turning the southern end of level one into a foodie paradise with some of Sydney’s top providores… and this has us super excited.

They’ve been able to secure some of the foodie residents of the QVB and others from further afield. When you stroll through the market place to pick up some deliciousness, you’ll see vendors like Doughnut Time with a wicked Nutella hot chocolate, the cultured butter crew from Pepe Saya (a Gowings Bar & Grill favourite) and a three cheese grilled toastie with truffles from the creators of Salt Meat Cheese, and this is just naming a few. By the end of the walk through you won’t know who to throw your money at first, the line-up is just so damn mouth watering, check out the full list on the website.

On top of all the drool worthy chow, the choice of beverages will range from local faves, like the Tea Room to cheeky pop ups, like the Mulled Wine Bar. For parents of little ones, there is also a pizza making competition with the team from Vanto – kick back and be proud watching your little munchkin throw some dough around, while you google casting dates for Masterchef Junior.

QVB Marketplace is on from August 3 – 7 at the Queen Victoria Building.
