The Old Fashioned

“You need three ingredients for a cocktail. Vodka and Mountain Dew is an emergency.” That there is a quote from a little show called Mad Men, you may have heard of it… they won a tonne of Emmys. The quote rings true and pays particular homage to the Don Draper’s choice of drink, the Old Fashioned. Crafted from whiskey, bitters and sugar, served in a glass with a reasonably sized ice cube and you have yourself a nice end to a tough day.

Just for a little background and to further your knowledge on booze, the cocktail finds its roots somewhere in the early 1880s in the US. The concoction enjoyed a surge in the 1960s, due to what must have been a #throwbackthursday type vibe to 80 years prior. From the history books it seems that the humble drink went through many changes, like with the addition of absinthe, but now in the beautiful world we all find ourselves in, the Old Fashioned is all striped back and looking to keep things simple.
