This Month in: Sydney

Oct 5, 2017  ·  3 min read

Sydney’s weather and recent transformation into beloved daylight savings is screaming for the punters to get outside and enjoy the longer, warmer days. There’s a truck-load of fun and worthy events through this month, so here are our top four picks.

Sculpture by the Sea

Staged on the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk, Sculpture by the Sea is a stalwart of Sydney’s events scene, attracting visitors from far and wide every year. More than 100 sculptures by artists from around the world will be on display this month, with guests able to view these from October 19th to November 5th. Completely unique and ever-popular, this year’s event features artists from Australia to Japan and the US to Greece.

Newtown Good Food Fair

Newtown Square and Eliza Street will be filled with food and beverage stalls in a celebration of the suburb’s eclectic food and drink scene. More than 30 stallholders will be dishing out the goods, with bevvies flowing from the likes of the Courthouse Hotel, Newtown Hotel and Young Henrys, while foodies will flock in numbers to Mary’s, Bloodwood, Bovine & Swine and Queen Chow. Newtown is definitely one of Sydney’s coolest suburbs, where individuality and open-mindedness is a community must-have. There will also be live music for the punters and ample communal table areas to tuck into the goods. Got kids? They will love the petting zoo and face-painting on offer.

Sydney Wine Festival

Head on down to the Grand Pavilion at Rosehill Racecourse on the weekend of October 14 and 15 to immerse yourself in the city’s newest wine festival – the Sydney Wine Festival. You’ll be able to sample locally produced wines from all over the state, supporting all the champion winemakers from Mudgee, the Hunter Valley, Orange and New England (we are totally spoilt, hey!). If you’d like a bite with your tipple, there will be around 15 stalls serving street food from around the world, a gourmet cheese corner, plus free live entertainment. Count us in!

Super Furry Festival

Did you say pet-friendly activity? Heck yes to that! Surry Hills’ Super Furry Family is back for its fourth year, coming together to raise awareness of pet adoption. Pet owners can bring their four-legged friends along for a professional health check, or they can take part in a treasure hunt or doggy fashion show. If you don’t own a pet, you can scope out the pet shelters on the day, who will be doing their part to re-home our furry friends. Also, you can cuddle bunnies and kittens in special snuggle tents. Hearts are melting already.
