Nothing like a New Year’s Day

This is it guys! End of the year! Start of the new! It’s the time your feed will be flooded with “New year, new me” posts and everyone will be kicking on hard in the gym to accomplish their goals and stay true to their social media promises.

There will be pictures of fireworks, there will be kisses, there will be food and most of all, there will be alcohol. The week between Christmas and New Years is such an odd, confusing time.

You’re not sure what day it is, you can’t go outside without shoes lest you leave layers of your skin clinging to the ground, and you’re just kind of stuck wondering what to do with a belly full of cheese.

This is New Years preparation time – you’ll sort yourself out, slot the night in for a party and ring in the new year with style! Or, it’ll end up being over-priced, too hot and far too crowded and you’ll be sitting on a grassy knoll half-heartedly looking for where your left shoe went.

Either way, New Year’s Eve can really leave you in the dust. That’s why we have New Years Day.

The often forgotten little brother of The Eve, New Years Day has the potential to absolutely kick the smoke out of your head from the year that was – and there is no better place than Sydney to do just that.

If it’s as hot as Christmas, you should have a pre-packed beach bag to swipe up as you leap out the door bright and early and get to Bondi to greet the year with a dawn swim.

You’ll see the new sun, rise on the new year. Wash away any semblance of a hang over and be left feeling buzzed as a bumble bee for the rest of the day.

From here you can either spend the day eating from Fishbowl Poke Bar next to QT Bondi and lounging on the sand, or you can gather up your towel and head back to the city for Field Day Sydney’s most celebrated boutique music festival, situated in The Domain in the heart of the city.

With a mix of indie, hip-hop, house and electronic artists from around the world, this 2017 line-up is a cracker, headlining with Childish Gambino and Chance The Rapper.

Tickets are currently sold out, but keep your eye on their Facebook, that’s where you’ll find your ticket.

If running around the place doesn’t appeal as a way to ring in the first day, you may want to lay low and sleep in with the option of movies, coffee and amazing food to be brought right to your door – that’s where we come in with a flourish, riding on a silver porter’s trolley.

QT Sydney boasts an incredible mini-bar (you’ve probably cleaned out the alcohol, espresso martini, intimacy kit and emergency bow-tie from the previous night) so now you can take advantage of the chocolate bars, the gummy candy and the soft-drink as you park yourself on the Dream Bed mattress and take advantage of the free movies on offer.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, grab the protein ball and head off around the corner to sweat out the year that was in a vigorous work-out with our good friends at Virgin Active. Guests can head there for free to take advantage of the pool, the rock-climbing wall, the classes, and if you’re in need – the oxygenated sleeper pods!

When you’re done, guide yourself back to our beautiful Director of Chaos waiting at the door and she’ll see you get back to your room, where you can then lie in and peruse the in-room dining menu and get back to watching movies and snuggling down with silver service at the touch of a button.

It’s been a year. Not necessarily a good one or a bad one, but it’s been full and at times it’s been tough, but there has also been kindness and love. I hope you’ve had a year that’s been bursting with life, love and adventure, and as you toast this one away and greet in the new one, do it with a grateful and hopeful heart.
