Morrissey in town for Vivid Live shows!

Feb 26, 2015  ·  2 min read

The first act set to play Sydney’s Vivid LIVE festival this year is none other than the former frontman of The Smiths, Morrissey. The strictly vegetarian muso has locked in four headline shows at the Sydney Opera House.

Morrissey’s Opera House Concert Hall shows, beginning on 26th May, will be the only Australian performances of his trip down under, and will showcase his extensive back catalogue and his latest album, 2014’s World Peace Is None of Your Business.

Vivid LIVE festival director and the Opera House’s Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, says Morrissey’s shows will sell-out quickly, and for good reason.

“I have vivid teenage memories of his face all over our lever-arch files in high school, so it’s amazing to now showcase his artistry on the Concert Hall stage,” Marshall says in a statement (via News Limited).

“These four vital, intimate concerts will be a very special occasion for all those like-minded souls who’ve been affected by Morrissey.”

According to News Limited, Morrissey is also banning all meat from backstage and from food and beverage bars around the Concert Hall (because Meat Is Murder) on the nights he’s performing, meaning the uber-expensive meat-loving restaurants near the Opera House are sure to get a workout while he’s in town.

Morrissey last toured Australia in December 2012, when he played shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. He sold out the second Sydney show of that tour, which also saw him take to the stage at the Opera House.

Tickets to Morrissey’s 2015 Sydney shows will be allocated via a ballot, in order to keep things as fair as possible. The ballot will open at midday on Monday, 2nd March and will close at midnight on Friday, 6th March.

Tour details are available below. For ballot details, visit the Sydney Opera House website.

Vivid Sydney 2015 will take place from 22nd May to the 8th June. The full Vivid LIVE lineup is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
