Metro Luminescence

Jun 14, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

I feel Batman would agree with me when I say the city is a playground. When I say it, I mean Sydney, the beautiful harbour side city, as opposed to the dark depths of gritty Gotham. Nevertheless, the city of Sydney is like a grownup’s playground and when you mix that with the creative flair of 14 home grown artists, you get a banging exhibition titled Metro Luminescence. It’s on now until early July at one of our favourite art hangouts, Ambush Gallery.

Phibs is a Sydney born and raised street artist, spending his youth tagging around Sydney. A move to Melbourne saw his art progress with the Everfresh Studio collective where he gained reverence in the fine arts world. On top of this, he earned mad street cred by painting a good part of Fitzroy, now known by many in the scene as ‘Phibsroy’. Now back home in Sydney, Phibs will be playing the role of curator for Metro Luminescence, which allows him to bring a long list of equally talented friends to exhibit their works.

Showing off their skills across photography, graffiti writing, mural works and sculptor pieces while offering some finer art portions, Metro Luminescence is stocked full of art goodness. With artists like Chris McGeown, GT Sewell, Lucy Lucy and OG graffiti tagger Snarl, the studio space will be broken up by the use of lighting to give the feeling of the day and night throughout the showcase.

Get on down to Ambush Gallery to check out what happens when you play with light, space and the city that you live in. Along with the exhibition there will be a number of experimental pieces from each artist with artefacts, sketches and some rad free standing installations.

Metro Luminescence is on now until July 10, 2016 at Ambush Gallery and is FREE.
