MCA Art Bar 2016

Jun 15, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

The mornings are getting colder, the days are still getting shorter, but you probably already know this if you have ventured through Sydney in the last week. From East Coast lows to temps that don’t get over the late teens (that’s cold, right?), winter is here for sure. Enough with the weather update though, and on to something that will warm you up. Thankfully the rad team at the Museum of Contemporary Art are heating up the last Friday of every month until November with a series of installation/concert/parties at MCA Art Bar. With July coming around rather quickly, it’s time to get excited with a breakdown of what’s on in the June event.

The last Friday of June 2016, or more commonly known as June 24, will see artists, Emily Floyd and Kate Dew take hold of the curatorship role for the monthly affair. In a unique take on the Art Bar event, the duo has planned a take over of the MCA, with a supernatural vibe about it all. This is going to consist of a mixture of dimly lit installations throughout the museum, where an eerie vibe takes you into spiritual readings, ghost tours, print workshops and some conceptual short movies, all playing into the paranormal feel.

On the rooftop you will find Melbournian songstress, Georgia Spain, laying out her catalogue of ballads with a dream like voice, as well as a number of local DJs spinning tunes and grooving the night up. What better place to warm up this winter than the rooftop of the MCA, over looking Circular Quay and those majestic sails of the Opera House, post Vivid.

So with June’s Art Bar all sorted, it would come as a timely reminder to grab some tickets before they (no doubt) sell out. See you there, kids.

MCA Art Bar is held on the last Friday of every month (November 25 is the final event).
