Five Cocktails To Try This Summer

One, if not the best part of summer is the leeway we give ourselves. “I hit the gym last Wednesday”, “I had a salad for lunch” or the classic “I’ve been good lately” are all valid reasons to treat yourself to a few drinks… Any old excuse will do. And since we’re being so liberal with our personal allowances, let’s at least get our choice of tipple on point.

It’s summer. We love cocktails. You love cocktails. Let’s drink cocktails.

I’m pretty sure Loving Spoonful were singing about Sydney and cocktails when they bashed out “Cool town, evening in the city, dressing so fine and looking so pretty. Cool cat, looking for a kitty, gonna look in every corner of the city”. Yep, they were talking about Sydney. And the kitty they’re referring to? Despite what you may think, they’re actually referring to a good cocktail… and oh my, there are indeed some excellent cocktails to be downed in Sydney.

We’ve listed five below. We’re not going to hit you with some annoying click-bait jargon like “you simply must try these”… they’re just five bloody delicious cocktails. Try them, don’t try them, whatever.

Marsh Mello-Yellow

This might look like a Flaming Moe, but we can assure you, it contains no cough medicine. The sweet marshmallow and pineapple is balanced by the egg white and the hit of the rum. Deliciousness.

What’s in it? Marshmallow and vanilla cargo cult spiced rum, honey water shrub, pineapple, lemon, egg white, toasted marshmallows.

Lady Gowings

This sophisticated lady is both elegant and fun and will find the inner Audrey Hepburn in even the clunkiest of drinkers. Classy.

What’s in it? Vanilla and honey bush tea vodka, white crème de cacao, cointreau,
lemon, watermelon, white chocolate.

Moscow Cool

This is one of those cocktails that needs discipline… it’s way too easy to smash the whole thing before your drinking partner has had their first sip. Sweet and refreshing.

What’s in it? Kaffir tito’s vodka, lemon butter, Lime, ginger beer, candied ginger,
kaffir leaf.

Popped Treacle

Garnish ahoy. Even if the actual drink wasn’t up to scratch you wouldn’t be peeved, because the garnishes on this bad boy are delicious. Alas, the drink is outstanding, so it’s a win win baby! Caramel + apple = win.

What’s in it? Popcorn bacardi carta blanca, salted caramel, cloudy apple,
chocolate bitters, caramel popcorn.

Sangria Blanco

What’s in it? Bombay sapphire gin, sauvignon blanc, elderflower, apple, lemon, cucumber, mint, grapes.
