Daniel Boyd featured in 56th International Art Exhibition

QT Sydney Feature artist, Daniel Boyd, has been curated into the major exhibition All the World’s Futures by esteemed curator, art critic, editor and writer Okwui Enwezor; an exhibition he describes as “a project devoted to a fresh appraisal of the relationship of art and artists to the current state of things.” At the core of the exhibition is the notion of the ‘exhibition as stage’ where historical and counter-historical projects will be explored via layers of intersecting ‘Filters’; Enwezor’s chosen Filters being: Liveness: On epic duration; Garden of Disorder; and Capital: A Live Reading.

The 56th International Art Exhibition: All the World’s Futures will run from the 9th of May to the 22nd of November 2015 across the Giardini, the Arsenale and in various locations across the city of Venice.

Entrants to QT Sydney’s bar, Gilt Lounge, are entranced by Daniel Boyd’s A Darker Shade of Dark #s1-4 (2012). Boyd’s floor-to-ceiling High Definition video features a multi-channel installation, showcasing histories of Pointillism and Impressionism through a new medium.

While Boyd’s use of dots recalls the tradition of the indigenous painting of Papunya Tula, his digital spin allows for each miniscule dot to produce light that moves across images to create a shimmering effect between figurative images. The subject is dark matter and the soundtrack, commissioned for the work, is somewhat psychedelic and adds to the mystery and intrigue of QT Sydney.
