In the coming months there will be a surge of runners across Sydney, an influx if you will, all pushing themselves to the limit, dragging their feet towards the finish line. All for what, you ask? To take home that little ‘finisher medal’ after completing a nice 14km (8.7 miles for our friends still in the dark ages using the imperial system) run from the heart of the city to the beating heart of Bondi, the two locations that complete the City2Surf checklist.
The run is a celebration of Sydney’s love of being active… or maybe just the love we have for active wear. Anyway, whichever “love” you feel fits best, the run brings a city together for that Sunday morning in mid August and it is beautiful a sight to see. The runners take over the roads and the paths are lined with spectators… that are either starting the party early or still going from the Saturday night… #EveryoneWins
On a more serious note, the City2Surf run raises over $5M in donations from corporate sponsors and runners raising funds through donations. And that is always a good thing. There are a whole host different charities like Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, Beyond Blue and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, that warmly welcome your support.
So now is the time to get your shoes on, swing those legs, widen that running gate of yours and get out there. Here is a helpful piece on where to run when you are around the Harbour City, along with a very interactive map.
It’s only 14kms and very achievable – I believe you can do this. I believe you should do this. So here are all the important facts. You can vote on the style of the 2016 finishing medal and enter you or your entire team for the early bird price tag of $65 on the City2Surf website.
Keep an eye out for the relativity good looking QT Sydney Running Team, a interesting collection of somewhat fit humans that will be raising funds and looking for the finish line come August… post race beer anyone?
City2Surf fires the starting gun on August 14, 2016.
