spaQFor a lot of people, gone are the days of spending Christmas Eve holding hands with loved ones, eating a roast and hitting the hay early. Christmas – sorry I should be saying, Chrissie Eve – is a time to get the Xmas indulgence party started early.
We look at how to do Christmas Eve in style in Sydney. That is, with copious amount of eating and drinking. Think of it as your warm up before the big game consume-a-thon that is Christmas Day itself.
Artisan Lane Sunday Markets
Ease into your Chrissie Eve, you’re in for the long haul. And to do that, consider checking out the Artisan Lane Sunday Markets at the foodie mecca that is the Tramshed’s. Besides playing host to a mix of markets, workshops, master classes, and pop-ups — the new flexi-space now offers a European-inspired market. The market will showcase seven local merchants each weekend from 8.30am-4pm meaning Christmas Eve will be the perfect starting point to line your stomach.
Free Jazz & Cheap Negronis
The title says it all really. The utter legends (and in a way, public servants) at Moya’s Juniper Lounge have combined the instrumental skills of The Squares with $10 classic Negronis. It starts at 6pm so merry jazzmas!
Colour Fields Pop-up Bar
Alcoholic beverages and art museums are a great mix. Eavesdropping on an inebriated conversation and hearing someone taking their pretentiousness down, or up, a notch when critiquing art is a glorious thing. It’s art in itself.
The MCA’s third annual exhibition-themed summer pop-up bar is Colour Fields by pioneering Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist. And going on the previous two, it’ll be banging. Awash in Rist’s kaleidoscopic and sublimely hallucinatory projections, the bar will be serving frozé rosé, gin infused with Earl Grey tea, tangerine spritz and more, and there’ll be tunes by Future Classic DJs and friends, like Jack Shit, Keep It Disco DJs, and Le Fruit. Enjoy the evening and keep your ears open.
French Feast & Craft Beer
Sinking into bed after being bombarded by French food and craft beer isn’t the worst way to end the night before the biggest feasting day of the year. Apparently, a big meal stretches the stomach. Whether that’s true or not, we’ll take it! Frenchies Bistro and Brewery are putting on a bottomless spread to remember … depending on how much beer you drink.
These generous enablers are offering all-you-can-stuff-in-your-mouth French cheese, cured meats, terrines, cake and pastries. As well as unlimited refills of their craft Kölsch, Comet Pale Ale, Old World IPA and seasonal brews.
