Christmas is, at its heart, all about family and friends spending quality time together. Celebrating in the magic and wonder of special times, good food and generosity.
However, often it’s a time of stress, fighting, way too much food and alcohol coming out every pore in your body.
If you can survive the main Christmas day, you’ve got a wonderful opportunity to really unleash all the pent-up energy on Boxing Day (the day after, for anyone unfamiliar).
You can either pack up the leftover Christmas food into a little portable picnic and watch the beginning of the Sydney to Hobart or you can get up at the crack of dawn and make your way into our fair city to take advantage of the Boxing Day Sales – the most famous sales day in Australia.

In the heart of the city, around every corner from QT Sydney, are situated the best and the boldest shopping centres that the city has to offer. Within the CBD, most retailers are throwing open the doors at 7AM to 9PM (with the Strand Arcade coming in a little later at 8AM to 7PM). All across the shopping district, the sounds of sleigh bells will be replaced by the ringing of cashiers as they swipe through the discounted goodies you had your eye on over the past few months.
You’ll find all the summer clothes, slightly new-ish arrivals in the tech-world and kids toys galore (hello Frozen dolls!) with prices slashed up to 80%!
Generally, with the sales, you’ll find it’s all the stuff you were filtering through for Christmas presents, so make sure you cast your eye about so you can be in and out as quick as possible when it comes to the big day.
Because I can tell you right now – if you’ve never experienced it, you may see some pretty hairy scenarios that bring out the worst in people.
Low prices and frenzied shopping can really set off the masses as they charge in and grab everything within reach!
I can guarantee you’re going to need a stiff drink at the end of the day – you’ll be trudging the shopping district with armloads of goodies, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for our bright red-headed Director’s of Chaos at the doors of QT Sydney!
They’ll spot your weary traveller’s march and usher you straight on up to our famous bar (unfortunately the restaurant and the cafe will be closed). So park your feet, lay down your load and grab a refreshingly exciting Espresso Martini; it’ll be just the post-Christmas-crazy-shopping pick-me-up you’ll need!
