It’s reaching that really awkward point of the year, where you start to see Christmas trees popping up around the city and you think, ‘WHAT?! Calm down! Christmas is like 3…no, wait…is it 2 months away?‘ and then you do the quick calculation and realise that no, Christmas is 6 weeks away.
I hope I haven’t just triggered that sinking feeling where you just really stop and take in the magnitude of what there is left to do – the biggest of which, is present shopping. (I won’t lie, I just dropped writing this for 20 minutes to find a present on Etsy.)
Speaking of which, online shopping is a godsend – but you have to be super prepared. If like me, you’re not, then you’re going to want to check out what Melbourne has been doing for years, and now Sydney is cottoning on and debuting this November – The Big Design Market.
Taking place at the Royal Hall of Industries at Moore Park, just 10 minutes from the Sydney CBD, this is a giant 3-day shopping and market spectacular.

Running from November 25 – 27, with entry prices sitting at a whopping $2 (kids are free) you will be nursing some serious whiplash as you attempt to take in everything at once.
There will be market stalls and fresh Australian designers showcasing their sweet little wares for you to peruse about and limited edition show bags on sale every day! Each containing over $120 worth of design pieces from the acclaimed stall-holders, for just $15 per bag. Each day there will be new bag selections with only 300 available – so you’ll want to really skim in there quick and polish off the old elbow.
With over 200 stalls being set up for the 3 days, there will be something for every one of those special present-receiving loves of your life – from homewares to kids toys, stationary, fashion, lifestyle, garden – you name it.
With designers such as 2k Labware, A Skulk of Foxes, Alan Myerson, Anna Scheen, Alchemy Produx (get the peppermint candle, it’s crazy), Bailey Nelson, Bikerax… I feel you’re getting the gist of the magnitude of this.
Apart from the shopping, there will also be cute little creative workshops you can get involved with food and drink stalls for those shopping breaks.
For those of you carting little munchkins in tow, there will be plenty of kids activities to distract them while you shovel their presents into the boot of the car.
Whether you’re purchasing gifts for your parents, your love, your kids or your enemies – you’re going to find something pretty special among the stalls over this weekend.
You know what? Present buying is hard and Christmas is stressful, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for yourself – go on, you know you deserve to treat yourself.
The Big Design Market is on at Moore Park from November 25 – 27
