Ben Lee at the Newtown Social Club

May 25, 2015  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

To celebrate the launch of his forthcoming album, Love Is the Great Rebellion, indie pop laureate Ben Lee will be performing at the Newtown Social Club on Saturday June 6.

Since cracking the music scene while still a teenager in the late 90s, Ben Lee has forged a musical career that has defied convention as much as it has garnered well-deserved acclaim. It was his 2004 post-Claire Danes album Awake Is The New Sleep that Lee really hit his stride, achieving double Platinum sales and what was the beginning of a cavalcade of awards,

His forthcoming new album, ‘Love Is The Great Rebellion’ finds Ben Lee making a sonic return to sounds of this era – energetic, raw and honest but with a humour that comes from seeing the world with a wiser gaze.

Lee says that the first lines of the album track Victory sum up the spirit of the self-reflective Love Is The Great Rebellion. “It is an album about mistakes, about looking at our past errors clearly and soberly,” he says. “But is also an album about rectification, about the correction of those mistakes, and the undeniable spring of hope that is available to each of us in the form of fresh starts and new beginnings.”

You can pre-order your copy of Love Is The Great Rebellion here.

Ben Lee will be performing tracks from his new album (and some classic ones) at the Newtown Social Club on Saturday, June 6.
