AusOpen of Surfing 2017

The Australian Open is generally met with thoughts of tennis in Melbourne – the great grand slam all Aussies are super proud of. I’m here to let you know that Sydney has something just as exciting. Forget the white visors and tennis skirts, we’ll give you golden sun-tanned skin, bleached hair and ridiculously attractive people pulling the best moves on the summer boards; surfing and skating.

Welcome to the summer extravaganza, The Australian Open of Surfing.

Running in picturesque Manly, the AOS will kick off on February 25 and keep on until the March 5. There is honestly nothing worth missing across this jam-packed extravaganza of everything that is making Sydney summers the best in Australia. We really do have some of the most striking beaches, and there is no better way to celebrate the beauty than to slap on some sunscreen (do it for your mum) and cruise on down that smooth Manly boardwalk (grab some Ben and Jerry’s to go).

There are some seriously big points in the surfing up for grabs, and as one of the World Surfing Leagues biggest calendar events it will bring in a crowd to be rivalled across the season.

Manly holds a special place in the hearts of the WSL, and while it’s not on the Championship Tour, it will still bring in some of the biggest names in surfing; a good batch of points here can set up the year nicely for the competitive surfer, and in turn it’ll highlight who is going to kick up some serious waves on the world stage.

With the 2020 Olympics looming on the horizon in Tokyo, both skating and surfing will debut so the Australian Open of Surfing will not only offer up some sweet tunes and epic scenery, it will also hold court for some of the future potential gold medallists.

The AOS will be the first pit-stop for the Vans Skateboarding tour and the Oceania surfing.

Throw a shaka to the like-minded and stay on for the whole event, ending up with the free Hermitude and Elk Road headlining concert at the MTV Music Stage on the final days.

Yeow 👌

The AusOpen of Surfing is on from February 25 to March 5 at Manly Beach.
